"a new songbook, beautifully delivered: that's surely worth waiting 50 years for" THE ARTS DESK

"These were songs of real beauty and sophistication, that surely deserve to join the Standards repertoire - arranged, played and sung with great passion and skill" LONDON JAZZ NEWS

Songbook is the exquisite playing and writing partnership between two-time Grammy award-winning jazz pianist/composer/arranger Alan Broadbent and stellar vocalist/lyricist Georgia Mancio.

Alan is recognised as one of the world’s leading jazz artists with credits as impressively far-ranging as Charlie Haden, Diana Krall, Natalie Cole, Woody Herman, Johnny Mandel and Paul McCartney. Georgia has proved herself one of the UK’s most original, adventurous and multi-faceted new artists, with work including Bobby McFerrin, Ian Shaw, Sheila Jordan, Gwilym Simcock, Liane Carroll and her own international voice festival - ReVoice!

Alan and Georgia first performed together in the UK in 2013 (including London Jazz Festival). Following an intense 9 month writing period they created their own original Songbook. Alan’s evocative melodies, sophisticated harmony and peerless arranger's ear find their perfect match in Georgia’s superbly crafted lyrics of both beauty and bite. Their on-stage rapport is wonderfully evident in this video filmed at Dean Street's Pizza Express. Together with much acclaimed bassist Oli Hayhurst (Pharoah Sanders, Julian Siegel, Ray Gelato) and drummer Dave Ohm (Gregory Porter, Ian Shaw, Anthony Strong) they will play a few exclusive UK dates this Autumn in support of the Songbook album release.

Through journeys and resting places, childhood and old age; from bebop to brooding ballads and bossa novas: The Alan Broadbent / Georgia Mancio Songbook sets the new standards of the future. We're really pleased to have secured this world-class quartet to open this year's Jazz Weekender, for which advance tickets are £15. In a spectacular collaboration with the Dunnett / Baxter Big Band, James Tormé (son of Grammy Award-winning jazz legend Mel Tormé) "Celebrates The Greats" in a show that features songs synonymous with artists who have influenced him - including Nat Cole, Ella Fitzgerald, Peggy Lee, Ray Charles, Stevie Wonder, and of course.. Mel Tormé.

Growing up with a show-business background and spending time with jazz legends such as Bing Crosby, Peggy Lee, Duke Ellington, George Shearing and Buddy Rich, James Tormé acknowledges the 'process of osmosis' that played a part in shaping him into the performer he is today - a superb and engaging singer who combines a modern sound with his old-school legacy. And given an opportunity to stretch out he demonstrates his considerable skill of scat singing - navigating the chord progression of a song as nimbly and with as much finesse as any instrumentalist.. Check out this super-cool arrangement of 'Love For Sale'.

“James Tormé is definitely his father’s son - smooth and cool.” NY POST

“...great arrangements, beautifully sung.”
MICHAEL PARKINSON, BBC RADIO 2

“A smooth as silk crooner, Tormé also demonstrated that he can scat, swing and riff with the best of them.” EXAMINER.COM

The band's A-list personnel has been hand-picked by MD Tom Dunnett to perform an evening of songs which includes arrangements by celebrated L.A. arranger Marty Paich. Amongst those joining Tom on-stage will be tenor man Dave O'Higgins (also performing in his own show on Sunday) and well-known local favourites Freddie Gavita (tpt), Clive Hitchcock (alto) and Nick Fitch (gtr).

We're delighted that James and the band are bringing their amazing show to this year's Jazz Weekender, for which advance tickets are £25. Alternatively, choose the 2-Show Deal and join us from 7.30pm to enjoy Georgia Mancio's world-class quartet for the all-inclusive advance-only price of £35.

Grupo Lokito fuse contemporary Congolese and Cuban music creating a modern day cocktail of two of the great world musics.

Based in London, the band have taken the UK by storm, wowing festivals and the club circuit alike with their blistering grooves and outlandish dance moves. The glorious melodious vocals of Congolese front men Eugene Makuta and Iddo Donnatella blends with soaring guitars courtesy of Congolese guitar hero Mbokalia, rhythmic grooves from Chocolat and the lilting keyboards of Sara. All of this sits on top of the rhythmic powerhouse team of Michel (drums), Emeris (Congas) and Elpidio (bass).

Since their formation in 2006 the band have gone from strength to strength, completing several UK tours and building a solid following. As if the grooves weren’t enough, the band have developed a rapport with their audiences which gets everyone up on their feet.
Grupo Lokito write their own original tunes - stories of life ranging from love tales, reflections on the trials facing musicians trying to make a home away from home, the wisdom of the elders to the simple joy of dancing.

Check out their performance of 'Conga Na Ma' here.

“Featuring the cream of London’s African and Latin musicians, layering the swinging soukous guitar sound of Kinshasa over the roots rhythms of Havana and then topping it all off with honeyed vocal harmonies and spoonfuls of hot salsa piano.. Lokito have got swing and charm, rich melodies and insinuating rhythms.” JAMIE RENTON (DJ, Journalist)

Born into a musical family and immersed in jazz from an early age, Enrico has risen to become one of the UK’s most highly-regarded and versatile trumpeters - being supremely accomplished in styles ranging through Dixie and Swing to Big Band and Bop.

He returns this year with 'Swing Company' - a show that pays homage to the John Kirby Sextet. Popular in the late 30s to early 40s and known as 'The Biggest Little Band In The Land', Kirby's ensemble featured Charlie Shavers, Russell Procope, Buster Bailey, Billy Kyle, John Kirby and William 'O'Neill' Spencer. The sextet was distinguished by marvellous writing and beautiful playing - demonstrating great accuracy even at fast tempos.

Enrico's 2pm show is sure to be a hit with fans of the swing / mainstream genre; but whatever you're into, in the company of Rico's troupe of top hand-picked performers, this is guaranteed to be a lovely way to spend your Sunday afternoon.

Although a relative newcomer to the UK jazz scene, Ant Law already represents a formidable presence, with two critically acclaimed CDs (2013's 'Entanglement' and 2015's 'Zero Sum World') and a host of impressive collaborations to his credit. Bringing many of the same artists to the festival that recorded the albums, he'll predominantly be performing his original compositions - every one a gem of ensemble writing, skilfully showcasing the musicianship of each highly-accomplished performer.

“Bustling power, judiciously harnessed with elegance and poise… Bright, punchy and memorable."
LONDON JAZZ NEWS

"Law’s compositions strike that hard-to-find balance between tricky and catchy, and the players he has chosen, particularly the rising pianist Ivo Neame, are the sort of musicians who willingly embrace the fuzzy logic of improvisation."
4 Stars, THE IRISH TIMES

"Along the way we hear post-M-Base-ish metric twists, a funky revamp of a South Indian cyclical rhythmic etude as well as more ambient , jangly folk-rock guitar moments..."

Julian has chosen to work with some of this generation’s most distinctive voices to create a group that has become one of the most in-demand quartets on the UK Jazz scene.

The band features inspirational pianist Liam Noble, his fluid touch and dazzling imagination perfectly complementing Siegel’s music and playing, and providing a perfect foil for the many directions the music can turn. With the creative spark of dynamic drummer Gene Calderazzo and the deep groove of bassist Oli Hayhurst dove-tailing perfectly with Siegel and Noble this is unquestionably one of the UK’s most exciting and powerful quartets. The music the band plays moves freely through varied sound-worlds and colours, from undercurrents of bop into electro-acoustic trance, from an acoustic quartet playing early-electric Miles to dancing West African drum grooves, searching ballads and joyful melodies. The Julian Siegel Quartet was one of the top UK jazz acts that toured Germany and Austria in March 2011 as part of the Brit Jazz traveling-festival, in which six of Britain´s most exciting and forward-thinking bands descended on Germany and Austria, performing 76 gigs over the period of two weeks.

‘Urban Theme Park’ was awarded the London Jazz Award 2011 in the London Festival Fringe Awards for Art and Performance. Catch the quartet performing 'One For J.T.' from that album in this video.
